New Independent Study High school
On April 13, 2021, the Governing Board authorized the District to create a new school to address the needs in the community to better serve our students. Work began the next day requesting authorization from the California Department of Education. Central Union Virtual Academy is a temporary name for the school to get started. Students, parents and the community will work to provide recommendations to the Governing Board for the naming of the school later this Fall.
Here are our early plans:
- The school will serve around 60-90 students
- Students will complete 2 semester courses every 6 weeks completing 6 classes each semester (30 credits)
or
- Students will be enrolled in 6 classes that must be attended daily completing 6 classes each semester (30 credits)
- Students will meet with their teacher in person or virtually each week.
- Courses are offered through Edgenuity
- Tests will be taken in-person.
- The office and testing center will be co-located at Central Union Adult School for now.
- Student may be dual enrolled at their neighborhood school if additional classes are needed and may also participate in extra curricular activities at their neighborhood school.
