What is a Local wellness policy?

Purpose:

The Wellness Committee for School Nutrition is committed to creating a healthier school environment by promoting nutritious eating, encouraging regular physical activity, and supporting the overall well-being of both students and staff. We strive to work collaboratively with the school community to ensure that healthy choices are esay to make, enjoyable, and long-lasting.
 
Objectives:

1. Enhance Nutrition Standards:
Continually review and improve the nutritional quality of school meals and snacks to align with current dietary guidelines and evidence-based practices.
 
2. Encourage Healthy Lifestyles:
Provide educational opportunities and engaging activities that support healthy eating habits and consistent physical activity.
 
3. Strengthen Community Involvement:
Build strong partnerships with parents, educators, local health professionals, and communty organizations to support wellness effots and incorporate diverse input.
 
4. Monitor and Improve:
Regularly evaluate the impact of wellness initiatives and make data-driven adjustments to meet the evolving needs of our school community.
 
Committee Roles:
- Chairperson: Leads meetings, oversees initiatives, and serves as the primary contact.
- Secretary: Takes meeting minutes, organizes documentation, and communicates updates.
- Nutrition Specialist: Provides expertise on dietary guidelines and food quality.
- Physical Activity Coordinator: Develops and promotes physical activity programs.
- Parent/Guardian Representative: Offers insights and feedback from a family perspective.
- Student Representative: Voices student interests and experiences.
- Community Liaison: Builds connections with local organizations and health professionals.
 
Meetings:

The committee meets at a minimum of 3 times a year to plan, review, and implement wellness initiatives. Meetings are scheduled in advance and held either in person or virtually to ensure all members have the opportunity to participate and contribute.
